Mount Fuji
🌎 Mount Fuji, Kitayama, Fujinomiya, Shizuoka 418-0112, Japan
Mount Fuji, known as the "volcano" in Japanese, spans Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. This revered mountain, often referred to as the "Holy Mt." in Japan, has been dormant since its last eruption in 1707. As a significant symbol of Japan, Mount Fuji attracts visitors seeking to immerse themselves in its natural beauty. The Fuji Five Lakes area, situated beneath the northern slope of Mount Fuji, offers an ideal vantage point to appreciate the majestic scenery. Kawaguchi Lake, renowned for its iconic reflection of Mount Fuji, is a must-see attraction, along with the nearby Oshino Hachi Sea. For optimal views of Mount Fuji, Peace Park in the southeast provides a tranquil setting. On clear days without cloud cover, the distinct conical peak of Mount Fuji is clearly visible, especially striking during autumn and winter when snow adorns its summit. From mid-September to mid-October, snowfall begins at the peak, persisting until around June of the following year, with remnants visible even into mid-July. Climbing Mount Fuji is typically feasible from July to August, with the mountain closed during other seasons. Accessible through four main entrancesâ€â€ÂÂFujinomiyaguchi, Sugoguchi, Gotembaguchi, and Fujiyoshida (Kawaguchiko)â€â€ÂÂthe climb is divided into ten stages or "stations," each offering rest stops for tourists. Most visitors opt to take a bus from Lake Kawaguchi to the fifth station before commencing their ascent. Upon reaching the summit, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking views of a volcanic lake nestled within two craters, surrounded by eight peaks. A crater tour reveals a weather station, offering panoramic vistas and ideal photo opportunities. Two shrines, Kusushi Shrine and Sengen Shrine, along with a post office, add to the cultural significance of the summit. Watching the sunrise atop Mount Fuji is an unforgettable experience. Beyond Mount Fuji itself, the surrounding scenery is equally captivating. The northern foothills boast caves formed after volcanic eruptions, some emitting continuous steam. Notably, Fuyue Feng Cave features walls adorned with icicle-like stalactites known as "Wannianxue." To the south, vast plateau pastures offer year-round beauty, perfect for leisure activities such as camping, swimming, fishing, skiing, and skating.
